Eighteen pans of clear, glowing color in a little white tin about the size of a postcard. Open the lid and it becomes your palette, with two mixing wells below the paints for building up a soft wash or blending the exact green of a spring leaf. A petite size 6 round brush rides inside, so the whole kit is ready the moment inspiration shows up.
The colors were chosen to paint real life: a lemon yellow and a yellow ochre for sunlight and wheat, scarlet, vermillion hue and rose for berries and blooms, violet, cerulean blue, ultramarine and Prussian blue for skies and water, four greens from yellow green to Hooker's green, plus burnt umber, lamp black and white. A swatch card is included, so you can paint a dab of each color and see exactly what you have before you start. At 4 by 6 inches it slips into a purse or a travel bag for painting at the park, on vacation or at the kitchen table. Pair it with an Emily Lex Studio watercolor workbook for a gift she will open again and again.
