A cast metal bird sits on the crown of this oval wall clock, and it is the thing every visitor notices first. The frame is metal in an antique bronze finish, rubbed back in places so a warmer red reads through the edges, and a glass lens keeps the printed face clean.

That face is a reproduction of a French engraver's plate: black Roman numerals around an outer minute track, and the imprint Traits de Plume par Charles Derriey, Rue Bonaparte, 44 set in script through the middle. At 25 and a quarter inches tall including the bird it fills a wall on its own, over a mantel, a console table, or the run of cabinets in a kitchen.

Inside is a quartz movement that runs on a single AA battery, and a keyhole slot is cast into the back plate so it hangs on one fixing. Made from metal, glass and wood.
