Every country kitchen needs a rooster, and this one struts. He stands tall on a sunny yellow base splashed with green grass and black squiggles, one orange foot planted forward and head held high. A glossy russet neck sweeps down into a back painted in bold bands of red, plum and soft tan, finished with a barred cream and black breast and a speckled tail.

The high-gloss glaze catches the light on a windowsill, a kitchen shelf or the top of a hutch. His red comb and wattles carry painted purple dots, and his brown eye looks right back at you. Give him pride of place on a farmhouse table, set him beside the bread box, or hand him to the friend whose backyard flock already has names. The rooster you receive is the one pictured, with no chips or cracks on the side shown.
