Slide the switch on and the faceted snowflake on top lights up while rings of blue, green and red light spin around it, a winter light show small enough to hold in one hand. Switched off, it is a frosty, clear snowflake on a bright blue handle, ready for the snow queen in the family. Switched on in a dark room, those spinning rings are what every kid at the party lines up to try.

Its three AA batteries are packed right in the bag, so the light show begins as soon as the wrapping comes off, and fresh ones swap in when the glow finally dims. At 10 inches long it is sized for small hands and easy to wave through a holiday parade, a tree lighting or a winter princess birthday party. Tuck it in a stocking, hand it out as a party favor, or keep it on the nightstand for the long, dark evenings of December.
