The lid on the toilet lifts and drops on its hinge, the cistern handle pulls, and a mouse crosses to the pedestal sink to wash under a single gold tap. Above the washstand a real mirror hangs, and the cabinet door below it swings open. Open the striped wash bag and five pieces come out of it. It is a bathroom that works the way a bathroom works, one small motion at a time.

What's in the box: four pieces

• Mouse Sink Dresser, Off White: a real mirror above the basin and a cabinet door that opens on a hinge, Mouse size, Maileg item 11-5128-00.
• Mouse Bathroom Sink, Off White: an off white pedestal sink with a single gold tap and a drain hole in the basin, sized by Maileg for Little Sister and Little Brother Mouse, Maileg item 11-5134-00.
• Mouse Toilet: an off white metal body with a black seat and lid that lift and drop on a hinge, 9.5 cm (3.7 in) tall, Mouse size, Maileg item 11-4107-00.
• Mouse Toothbrush Set in Bag, Blue Stripe: five pieces in a striped canvas bag 5 cm (2.0 in) tall, a toothbrush, a hairbrush, a cup, a tube of toothpaste and a bottle of shampoo. Maileg calls this colorway Blue stripe; the stripes read as a soft seafoam against cream. Mouse size, Maileg item 11-6303-01.

The sink dresser, the toilet and the wash bag are Mouse size, the scale Maileg builds for the whole mouse family, so Big brother, Big sister, Mum and Dad all use them. The pedestal sink is the smaller basin Maileg makes for the Little mice, which gives the room two places to wash instead of one. All four belong in one box because a bathroom needs all of it: somewhere to wash hands, somewhere to sit, a mirror to stand in front of, and the wash bag that goes with them. The off white finish and the gold taps carry across the set, so the washstand and the pedestal sink look like they came out of the same room.

This is the box for a child who already has the mice and nowhere for them to wash, and for the birthday where one present furnishes a whole room. Once the bathroom is standing, the rest of the house is waiting in the rest of the Maileg mice and their furniture.
