Tip a spoonful into your hand and you see why this is not a powder. Every granule is a pellet a honeybee packed by hand, and because the flowers change through the season the jar comes flecked yellow, orange, green and gold. One ingredient, and the harvest is a record of a place and a time: Pacific Northwest wildflowers, gathered by bees across multiple seasons.
Bees collect pollen to feed their brood, which needs protein and micronutrients, and that is what makes it one of the most nutrient dense things in the hive. Mickelberry Gardens sources it directly from beekeepers in the Willamette Valley, who use pollen traps that let most of the pollen carry on into the hive so the colony is fed first. The taste is naturally sweet and floral with a subtle earthy note. The 6 oz jar holds about thirty four teaspoon sized servings.
