Some gifts get a smile before the box is fully open, and this parrot is one of them. It has a turquoise head with a soft white cheek, a curved yellow-green beak over a dot of red, two cobalt blue wings lifted mid-flap, and a tail that runs from orange into deep red. The body between them is clear, and it sparkles like crushed ice when the sun finds it.

Every parrot is made one at a time in lampwork, a way of shaping colored glass by hand over a flame, which is why no two match and yours will differ a little from the pictures. It measures about 9.5 x 9 x 5 cm, a little under 4 inches long, has a clear loop on its back for a thread or a hook, and comes in a white gift box. Hang it in a sunny kitchen window, over a desk that needs cheering up, or anywhere a room could use more color. It suits anyone who keeps birds, misses the tropics, or collects bright things.

About the pictures: the first one is a studio rendering built from Sienna Glass's own photograph of this parrot. The last picture is that photograph, untouched.
