Give it to the friend who got through a hard year, the colleague who carried the project, or the teenager who needs to hear it. The message is printed on the box, not on the glass, so once it is unwrapped the heart is simply a beautiful thing to keep. Friendship hearts come from an old glassmakers' custom: when the shift ended, the leftover glass was blown into small pieces and given to family and friends.

Each heart is mouth-blown in Eastern Europe and is one of a kind. Gold tones in particular run from pale honey to deep amber, as the photos here show, so yours will not match them exactly.
