This year Santa has asked Teeka to get the reindeer ready to fly on Christmas Eve, and she is excited and a little afraid. The reindeer have spent the whole year out on the tundra, wild and free, and Teeka decides the only way to bring them in line is to be strong and firm.
It does not go to plan. The more she shouts and bosses, the more the stubborn reindeer get their antlers tangled up, until Teeka realizes there must be a kinder way to get a team ready for the most important flight of the year. Booklist gave it a starred review and called it beautifully conceived and finely wrought.
Jan Brett draws on Swedish folk art for her glowing pictures, and the side panels on each page show the elves busy in Santa's workshop as the days count down, so Kirkus called it a beguiling Advent calendar of a book. A Christmas favorite to read aloud through December, for ages 4 to 8.
