The trolls who live on Mount Baldy want a dog, and that is where Treva's trouble begins. She sets off on skis to visit her cousin on the other side of the mountain with her dog Tuffi at her side, and before long a furry, big eared troll pops out of the snowy forest, scoops Tuffi up and growls, "I want dog!"
Treva is brave and quick thinking. She swaps her warm mittens to win Tuffi back, then her favorite pom-pom hat, and outwits one greedy troll after another all the way up to the very top of the mountain, where five trolls are waiting for her. Booklist called it playful and funny, with a valiant heroine, a first-rate read, wintertime or anytime.
Jan Brett paints the Scandinavian mountains in glittering detail, from carved log chalets to snow laden firs, and along the bottom of every spread a cutaway of the trolls' underground home tells its own story for sharp eyed readers. A cozy winter read aloud for ages 4 to 8.
