Ten little three piece puzzles, one for each number from one to ten. Every puzzle joins a numeral, the number written out as a word, and a watercolour of exactly that many woodland things: one deer, four owls, nine toadstools, ten pinecones.

The clever part is the backgrounds. Each puzzle sits on its own shade in an ombre range, so a child who pushes the wrong pieces together can see it for themselves. That is what lets them self correct instead of waiting to be told.

The pieces are made from recycled material and cut thick, and the whole set packs back into a box measuring 150 x 150 x 40 mm. The illustrations are by Australian artist Amanda Borchers, whose realistic style is the reason these prompt questions about actual animals rather than cartoon ones.
