Somebody in this house remembers when the phone was attached to the wall. This is the Mad Libs written for them, and for the kid who will not believe a word of it.
90s Mad Libs is built out of the decade's own hardware and habits: Doc Martens and platform sneakers, the beeper you checked at lunch, the digital pet that had to be fed. The publisher's own summary calls the collection totally phat, which tells you the register it plays in, and the cover puts a portable CD player labelled DISC GUY into a kid's hands. One player holds the book and asks for words. Everybody else supplies them blind. Then the page gets read out and the nineties come back wrong.
Publisher age guidance is 8 to 12, which is a fair guide to who can fill the blanks and a poor guide to who will laugh hardest. The blanks belong to the kid; the references belong to whoever is paying.
