Chunkies are solid tempera paint in a twist up barrel, so a three year old uncaps one, twists the color up and paints. There is nothing to fill, nothing to rinse and nothing to knock over. The classic pack holds six sticks: pink, red, orange, yellow, light green and light blue.
The barrels are deliberately fat, sized for a fist rather than a pencil grip, and the color dries fast enough that a finished page can be picked up almost straight away without a thumbprint through it. Colors still blend on the paper, so mixing is part of the fun rather than a mess.
OOLY rates the set for ages 3 and up. Keep them capped between sessions and they stay usable for a long time.
