One frog. One toad. Two friends, always together. This is the first time Arnold Lobel's pair have been made into a board book, and it is built for the youngest hands. A circle is cut clean through the front cover with Frog and Toad standing inside it as a raised element, so a baby's fingers find them before a page is even turned.

The pictures are Lobel's own, lifted from the original stories, with no attempt to modernize them. Frog flies a kite whose string loops up through the title, daisies crowd the foot of the cover, and the whole object works as a small tribute to the friendship four books were built on.

Fourteen thick board pages, graded by HarperCollins for ages zero to four, which makes it a natural baby shower and first birthday present.
