Every Christmas Little Blue has a delivery job to do. He loads up at Toad's Trees and drives one green tree to each of his farm friends, and the trees are numbered so a child counts them off the truck bed, one to five and back again. Beep! Beep! And there is one left at the end, which is Blue's own.
The last page is the reason this one gets asked for by name. Blue's own tree is strung with real Christmas lights, and they come on. A toddler who has sat through the counting gets a payoff she can trigger herself, and then wants the whole book again to get back to it. Kirkus put it plainly: "it is the sparkling lights on the truck's own tree that will put a twinkle in a toddler's eyes."
Alice Schertle's rhyme carries the same beat as the rest of the series and Jill McElmurry's farm animals are all here in scarves and hats. The pages are thick cardstock and the trim is chunky, about 9.3 by 8.3 in and nearly an inch thick, so it stands up to being held upside down and dropped by a two year old.
Blue’s other jobs are in stock: the original Little Blue Truck, Little Blue Truck Leads the Way, Little Blue Truck and Racer Red, Little Blue Truck Feeling Happy, Time for School, Little Blue Truck, and the other seasons — Little Blue Truck's Halloween, Little Blue Truck's Valentine and Little Blue Truck's Springtime. There is also the two-book gift set and Little Blue Truck Farm Sticker Fun!.
