Lavender buds drift through the bottle and settle at the bottom, which tells you how this oil is made: real flowers steeped in it, not a fragrance dosed into it. Only two things in the formula carry the scent, lavender oil and lavender flower, and the base underneath is fractionated coconut oil with organic safflower, pumpkin, avocado, camellia, pomegranate, passion fruit and evening primrose seed oils, green tea leaf extract and vitamin E.

SopranoLabs calls this one Calming and means the scent: clean, herbal, slightly sweet, the version of lavender that smells like the plant rather than like laundry soap. Light enough to use straight after a shower without feeling coated, and useful well past the body, on dry ends, on a scalp before washing, on cuticles.

SopranoLabs was founded in New York in 2015 by the opera singer Inna Los, who still formulates every product herself. The maker states that everything is handmade from scratch in small batches, vegan and never tested on animals, and made without parabens, SLS, phthalates, fillers, artificial dyes, synthetic preservatives, GMOs, gluten, dimethicone or mineral oil.
