Hang this up and let the whole street know you are ready for them. The word "open" runs across the front in a big looping script, outlined in a dark band and set with rows of round gold-tone studs, like the nailheads on an old saddle or trunk. Behind it, a warm brown weathered-plank look with notched ends gives it the easy charm of a barn-door sign, and a twisted rope hanger lets it swing from a hook or a nail.

It is made for the front door of a boutique, a coffee cart, a craft booth or a farm stand. It earns its place at home too: hang it on the door of a craft room, a home bar or a backyard studio and the welcome is built in. A thoughtful little gift for a friend opening a shop of their own.
