Wise Owl Glaze in Black Pearl Metallic is a deep black shot through with fine pearl shimmer, so the shadow it leaves in carved detail catches light instead of swallowing it. Brushed over a painted piece and wiped back, it settles into moulding lines, spindles and raised grain and lifts cleanly off the high spots. Over a white like Isles Ave it reads as smoked pewter; over a deep color it goes near black with a metallic glint.
This is a water based glaze, not a paint. Wise Owl builds the line with flat or metallic pigments depending on the color, and it tints and shades whatever sits beneath it instead of covering it. That means it works two ways: over a painted piece that has been sealed, or straight onto bare wood for a gel stain finish. This is one of the metallic colors in the line.
