Riley Samels paints it like a nature study rather than a cartoon: ferns, red toadstools, a snail on a stem, dragonflies over water, poppies going over in the late light. Behind each sturdy flap is something small and specific to find, so a toddler who cannot follow the story yet still has a reason to keep turning.
