Look at her eyes. Each one is a single small star of dark stitches, worked as a spray of strokes around a centre, and it is the detail Maileg itself names on this mouse. It does a lot of work for its size: it puts age in her face, and she reads at once as somebody's grandmother, and children treat her that way from the moment they take her out.

Her clothes are the second thing you notice. A green knitted blouse with a small collar and short puffed sleeves, a tan and black checked skirt crossed with fine red lines, and brown shoes printed onto her feet so they never come off. She stands 16 cm (6.3 in) tall, a grandparent in Maileg's family sizing, which is the same height as the parent mice, so adult clothes and adult beds fit her.

There is a magnet in each hand. She can take hold of a metal watering can, the handle of a wagon, or another mouse's paw, and she keeps hold of it. Cotton, filled with recycled polyester and PP pellets.

She and Granddad Mouse are the same generation and the same size.
