A lonely bunny asks an old owl where Easter is. The owl falls asleep mid answer, so the bunny sets off east to look for it himself, and the search takes him through summer, autumn and winter before spring gives him what he was actually after all along, which was never a basket.

Charlotte Zolotow published this in 1959 and it has never really left print, because it does the thing very few holiday books manage: it is about longing and company rather than about candy. Helen Craig illustrates the story in soft pen and watercolour, with the seasons turning in the borders while the bunny walks.
