The golden egg has gone missing in the middle of an Easter egg hunt, and the search runs down through the book itself. Egg-shaped holes are cut clean through every board page, each smaller than the one before, so the reader looks past rings of lilac, spotted pink, teal, yellow and dotted white to a gold egg resting at the bottom.

Cynthia Platt keeps the mystery to a few words a page, which is about as long as a toddler will sit still, and Kathryn Selbert crowds the meadow around the hole with a chick, a bee, a butterfly and flowers, so there is still something to find on the twentieth reading. Keep an eye on the furry, fuzzy animals on the farm.
