A pumpkin has gone missing and the hunt goes straight through the book. Pumpkin-shaped holes are cut clean through every board page, each smaller than the one before, so a small reader looks down a tunnel of orange, spotted green, purple glitter, red, teal and yellow to a little orange pumpkin at the bottom.

Anne Passchier draws the search as a run of Halloween places to check: a witch's cauldron, a spider web, a trick or treat bag. The candy corn and wrapped sweets scattered over the cover carry on inside, and the black cat looking in from the corner is the character a toddler will point at first. The publisher's own hint is to keep an eye out for the farmer and the scarecrow.
