A race track a child builds is a different toy from a race track that arrives finished. This one starts as 50 loose pieces on the carpet and becomes whatever the builder can hold in their head: a flat oval, a figure of eight, a ramp that drops from a bridge into a curve. Change one support column and the whole run changes with it.
PicassoTiles gives 48 track pieces and 2 light up cars to do it with: 12 square track tiles, 8 quarter round turns, 4 rectangular track tiles, 4 slopes, 4 tall triangles and 16 supporting columns. The columns are what lift a stretch of track above the one below it, which is where the engineering starts, because a ramp that is too steep sends the car off the edge and a child works that out in one run rather than being told.
The two cars have headlights and take AA batteries, which are not included. Every track piece connects magnetically to the rest of the full size PicassoTiles range, so this set joins whatever tiles are already in the toy box instead of sitting in its own pile. PicassoTiles marks the box Ages 3 and up and states the plastic is BPA free and non toxic with smooth rounded edges.
