One face is printed with the lowercase alphabet for tracing. Turn it over and the whole surface is blank. That is the entire idea, and it is the reason this board survives the drive to the grandparents better than a colouring pad: nothing runs out, nothing marks the seat, and there is no lid to lose.
The stylus draws by lifting magnetic beads to the surface, so a line appears under the pen and the same face can be used again. The lowercase side matters more than it looks: children usually meet capitals first, and lowercase is the alphabet they actually have to read on a page, so tracing it is closer to real practice than decoration. PicassoTiles publishes a board of 12.3 x 10 x 0.6 inches with a 10.3 x 6.6 inch drawing area and a 4 inch pen, and states the board is BPA free and non toxic.
