A real pressed metal sink basin is set into the top, and the open shelf underneath is recessed deep enough to stand the tomato can in. The rest is drawn: sturdy printed card, with the cooktop and its dials, the oven door and a stack of crockery inked on in Maileg's own hand. From two feet away it reads as a whole kitchen; up close it is a drawing you can put a real pot on.
Seven loose pieces come with it and all seven are three dimensional: two cups, two saucers, an open pot with a long handle, a pitcher, and a printed can of tomatoes for the sauce. They live on the top and in the open shelf, and they are the reason this is a cooking scene rather than a backdrop. Turn the counter around and the back is a second kitchen, drawn flat: the same shelf, the same crockery and the same sink, all printed on the card.
Maileg sized it for mice living in the SuitCasa mouse house, so it is small even by Maileg standards, 13 cm (5.12 in) wide and only 6 cm (2.36 in) tall. It is paper and metal, with nothing to stuff or wash. Built to that scale, it slots straight into the SuitCasa Mouse House the little mice keep house in.
