It actually lights. That is the whole reason this small red lantern gets carried from room to room and left burning on a shelf long after everyone has gone to bed. A white globe sits inside a red painted metal frame, under a domed cap, with a hoop over the top for a mouse to hold, and a small switch on the base collar turns it on.

It stands 7 cm (2.76 in) tall and is 2.5 cm (0.98 in) across, which is Mouse size. Maileg makes it for the hikers and the outdoor sets, and it works just as well on a windowsill in the Mouse Hole Farmhouse or on a table in the Mouse Castle.

Two practical notes. The battery is not included: it takes one CR1632 coin cell, which is a less common size than the CR2032 in most drawers, so check before you promise a child it will light tonight. And Maileg puts a small hex key in the box so you can open the lantern to fit it. Maileg lists the material as metal, and the frame, cap and foot are painted metal; the globe is not.
