Most magnetic tile sets hand a child a pile of shapes and leave the idea to them. This one hands them a rocket. PicassoTiles builds the 32 pieces around a single buildable object, and a child who has never managed a three dimensional build before will get a rocket standing on the rug on the first afternoon, because the shapes in the box are the shapes the rocket needs.
The mix is 20 small squares, 5 right triangles, 5 isosceles triangles and 2 pentagons, and the pentagons are the reason this set looks different on the floor: each one carries a star embossed across its face, so a finished rocket gets a decorated nose instead of a blank panel. Once the rocket is built it comes apart into launch pads, space stations and anything else the story needs, and the tall isosceles triangles are useful well beyond rockets.
It is designed as a booster set, so it snaps onto any other full-size PicassoTiles collection already in the house and adds shapes the classic sets do not carry. PicassoTiles states the set is BPA free and non toxic with smooth rounded edges on every magnetised tile, and prints Ages 3 to 99 on the box.
