A hundred and one translucent tiles is the point at which a magnetic set stops being a starter kit. There is enough here to lay a mosaic across the rug and still have tiles left to stand a tower on it, which is the moment children stop asking for help and start arguing about whose turn it is to add the roof.
PicassoTiles packs the classic mix: 36 squares, 2 large squares, 34 small triangles, 20 right triangles and 9 isosceles triangles. Five tile shapes is the whole vocabulary, and it is enough to build houses, rockets, stars, animals and flat geometric patterns that fold straight up into three dimensions. PicassoTiles calls out strong reinforced magnets, high transparency and a heavy-duty lattice on this set, and the transparency is doing more work than it sounds: light through the coloured panes is half the reason a build stays on the floor for a week instead of an afternoon.
It packs away as quickly as it goes up, and it snaps onto any other PicassoTiles set already in the house. PicassoTiles states the set is BPA free and non toxic with smooth rounded edges, and grades it for ages 3 and up.
