Born underground is a cutaway. Badgers sleep in a sett, foxes lie up in a den under purple tree roots, and a rabbit burrow runs off to one side, with instructions to add more badger cubs inside the sett and to stick baby rabbits deep inside their burrow. Carry me! is the opposite: all above ground and all motion, where a mandrill, a gorilla, an anteater, a leopard, a tiger and a sea otter each get their baby stuck on for the ride, and a sloth hangs from a branch with its own clinging to its chest. Usborne’s description takes the book further still, to kittens, piglets and puppies, tiny snakes and turtles, and on to the African grasslands, the Australian outback and the snowy Polar regions.

The sticker pages are labeled by spread, so the sheet marked Born underground pages 6 to 7 holds exactly the badgers, foxes and rabbits that scene is short of, and Staying close pages 8 to 9 holds the koalas, wallabies, kangaroos with joeys and wombats.
