Every scene comes with one short instruction, which is what makes this work for a three year old who cannot read it yet. Carrying cargo is a dockside: big cranes swing crates of fruit onto a green cargo ship, and the lines underneath ask you to stick some cranes on the ship’s deck and fill the road below with trucks. Snowdrift is the same idea in winter, with a tow truck to pull a blue car out of a drift, a digger to dump snow into a waiting truck and a crane to help move a fallen tree. Usborne’s own description adds a playground to build, a quarry to mine and a building to demolish.

Eight full pages of stickers keep the supply well ahead of the demand, and they are grouped by the spread they belong to: the sheet printed Lifting and loading pages 2 to 3 holds exactly what that scene is short of, and the next one is marked Carrying cargo pages 4 to 5. Thirty two pages at about 6.7 by 9.4 inches, light enough to live in a bag for the restaurant, the waiting room and the long drive.
