From Usborne, the British children's publisher that turned the board book into something to operate: press the buttons in its sound books to hear the scenes come alive, move a slider to change both the picture and the noise, lift a flap to see what is underneath.
Built for hands that are still learning to be gentle, which is exactly what makes them such dependable first-birthday and baby-shower gifts.

A close look at butterflies and moths, and the stickers to put them where they belong. The cover roundel prints over 140 stickers.
What lifts this one is that every instruction teaches something. Butterflies have tongues shaped like tubes for sucking nectar, so you add painted ladies and others to lilac and petunia flowers; zebra longwings feed on yellow lantana and zebra swallowtails are often found on black-eyed Susans, so those two go where the text says. In India, common jays, common gulls and orange gulls drink from puddles, and there is a streambed waiting for more of them. In the Amazon, blue morphos feed on rotting fruit, and the page asks you to find some with their wings closed, because a blue morpho is brown underneath. Butterflies taste their food with their feet before they start drinking. None of it is announced as a lesson; it is simply what the sticker is for.
The book follows the life cycle as well, from a tiny egg to a caterpillar and from a pupa to a butterfly, and it opens on a garden of marigolds, pinks and nasturtiums to be crowded with small tortoiseshells and holly blues. Thirty two pages at about 6.7 by 9.4 inches, sized to travel.
Paperback, 32 pages, by Jane Bingham, illustrated by Sally Agar. Usborne Publishing Ltd., May 2025. ISBN-13 9781836051138. Publisher age guidance: 3 years and up.
Nine more Little First Stickers books are here: Diggers and Cranes, Baby Animals, Dinosaurs, Zoo, In the Forest, Cats and Kittens, Dogs and Puppies, Easter Bunnies and Love and Kindness. First Sticker Book Bugs covers the same ground at a larger size, with beetles and spiders alongside the butterflies.
Beginners: Caterpillars and Butterflies explains what the stickers show: the pupa, the emerging monarch, and how a moth differs from a butterfly.
